Among French wines, those of the area of Orléans had their hour of glory in the Middle Ages. 
Since the 10th century, vines from Auvergne have been worked on in order to produce distinctive wines.

      Coteaux du Giennois 
    A distinctive local wine. 
    An appellation (AOC) - Surface area: 140 ha (350 acres) - Production: 7,000 hl 

    Red wine 
    Grape variety: gamay, pinot 
    Ideal served with: Meats and cheeses 
    Serving temperature: 14°C to 16°C 

    White wine 
    Grape variety: sauvignon 
    Ideal served with: Cold meats and cheeses 
    Serving temperature: 10°C to 12°C 
     

      L'Orléanais 
    3 appellation AOCn (guarantee of origin) : Orléans rouge - Orléans blanc - Orléans rosé
    Surface area: 90 ha - Production: 4,400 hl 

    Orléans rouge - Red wine 
    Grape variety: pinot Meunier (locally named gris meunier), pinot noir (locally named auvernat noir) and cabernet
     
    Ideal served with: Meats and cheeses 
    Serving temperature: 14°C to 16°C 

    Orléans risé - Rosé wine 
    Grape variety: pinot Meunier (locally named gris meunier), pinot noir (locally named auvernat noir) and cabernet
    Ideal served with: Game and grilled meats 
    Serving temperature: 10°C to 12°C 

    Orléans blanc - White wine 
    Grape variety : chardonnay (locally named auvernat blanc) and some pinot gris
    chardonnay 
    Ideal served with: Fish and cold meats 
    Serving temperature: 10°C   

      Orléans-Cléry 
    AOC appellation (guarantee of origin)
    Surface area: 25 ha - Production: 1,440 hl 

    Red wine 
    Grape variety: cabernet franc (can be cabernet sauvignon up to 2020)
