Wines of the
Nantes region



Grapes were introduced into the region of Nantes by the Romans 2000 years ago. The terrible winter of 1709, when the sea froze the length of the coast, destroyed the vineyards. 
The replanted vines were from the Melon variety of Bourgogne.

    Coteaux d'Ancenis 
    The wine from the Malvoisie variety of grapes is a curiosity to be discovered. 
    An appellation (AOC) 1954 - Surface area: 300 ha (750 acres)- Production: 10,000 hl per year 

    Red wine 
    Grape variety: gamay, cabernet, malvoisie 
    Ideal served with: Meats and cheeses 
    Serving temperature: 14°C à 16°C 

    Rosé 
    Grape variety: gamay 
    Ideal served with: Cold meats and first courses 
    Serving temperature: 10°C à 12°C 
     

    Fiefs vendéens 
    The ancient name: "fiefs du Cardinal", evokes the history of these wines appreciated by Richelieu. 
    An appellation (AOC) 1984 - Surface area: 380 ha (950 acres) - Production: 13,000 hl per year 

    Red wine 
    Grape variety: gamay, cabernet, pinot noir 
    Ideal served with: Meats and cheeses 
    Serving temperature: 14°C à 16°C 

    Rosé 
    Grape variety: gamay, cabernet, pinot noir 
    Ideal served with: Grilled meats and first courses 
    Serving temperature: 10°C à 12°C 

    White wine 
    Grape variety: chenin, grolleau gris, melon, sauvignon, colombard 
    Ideal served with: Cold meats and fish 
    Serving temperature: 10°C 
     

    Gros-Plant 
    An ideal wine to have with oysters. 
    An appellation (AOC) since 1954 - Surface area: 3,000 ha (7,500 acres) - Production: 200,000 hl 

    Dry white wine 
    Single grape variety: la folle blanche 
    Ideal served with: Fish and seafood 
    Serving temperature: 8°C 
     

    Muscadet de Sèvre-and-Maine, Muscadet de côtes de Grand-Lieu, Muscadet des coteaux de la Loire 
    The Muscadet is a wine for anytime as an aperitif. 
    An appellation (AOC) since 1936 - Surface area: 13,000 ha (32,500 acres) - Production: 700,000 hl per year 

    Dry white wine 
    Single grape variety: melon 
    Ideal served with: Fish and seafood 
    Serving temperature: 8°C
