Without denying the dangers of alcoholism, scientific
studies published in recent years have shown that the
intelligent consumption of wine can play a role in
preventing certain diseases. This has been a golden
opportunity for the wine industry, where great care has to
be taken in advertising due to strict regulations. Thanks to
the media, television and the American press in particular,
French wine exports have taken a huge leap.
Wine and the Heart:
The work of several research teams indicates that:
"Consumption of alcohol is associated with a reduced risk of
coronary diseases."
"For both men and women, drinking one or two glasses of wine
per day reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease."
"The death rate among regular wine drinkers is lower than
that for people who never drink wine."
Wine and Menopause:
Wine would seem to have beneficial effects on women's
menstrual cycles.
Research by an American team has shown that the tendency is
that:
"Women who consume moderate quantities of alcohol reach
menopause later."
Wine and Alzheimer's Disease:
Wine delays the appearance of senility in subjects who
consume moderate amounts compared with non-drinkers.
An epidemiological study by the INSERM (French National
Institute of Health and Medical Research) suggests:
"If elderly people consume moderate amounts of wine, this
seems to be associated with a reduced incidence of senility
and of Alzheimer's disease".
